Windsor, located in Canada’s deepest south, is famous for its sticky-hot summer weather, but the folks at Windsor Fire & Rescue Services plan on providing cool, wet nighttime relief across the city.
Thursday night, an aerial truck crew parked its rig at Garry Dugal Park on Drouillard Road in Ford City and began spraying down the neighbourhood kids with fun and welcome watery respite from the heat.

Hot Summer Nights will see Sparky, the department mascot, join city firefighters on Thursday night visits to parks in each of Windsor’s 10 wards. It’s a chance to meet fire rescue and prevention staff, tour the trucks and gather fire and other life-saving information. Oh, and run under the spray. Also, free hot dogs and drinks.
Each Thursday event runs from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Next week, it’s Ward 2’s turn at Mic Mac Park on July 13, followed by Ward 4 Lanspeary Park on July 20, Ward 3’s Fred Thomas Park on July 27 and Remington Booster Park in Ward 10 on August 3. More dates and details can be found at Windsor Fire’s website www.windsorfire.com.
