Falling on our heads like a memory, falling on our heads like a not-so-new emotion — It’s more rain, says Environment Canada.

The agency’s meteorologists have issued a special weather statement for Southern Ontario (including Windsor-Essex) advising of “significant early April rainfall,” starting Monday afternoon.

The most rain should happen throughout tonight, with total precipitation of 20 to 30 millimetres and a risk of thunderstorm. Southeasterly winds of 30 km/h gusting to 50 km/h are also predicted.

Things should taper off by Tuesday. But periods of rain are forecast for the rest of week. There’s even a chance of flurries on Friday.

It’s hoped that the sun and warmer temperatures will return next weekend, with a possible high of 20 C on Sunday.

What led to this extended patch of rain? Environment Canada is blaming a large, moisture-laden low pressure system from Texas. It’s tracking towards the Great Lakes, moving rain into Southwestern Ontario before continuing northeast into Quebec.

Monday’s special weather statement regarding comes just four days after the previous one from Environment Canada — issued March 30.

You know what they say about April and showers: It’s wet.
