UPDATE: As of 9:28 a.m., Environment Canada ended its thunderstorm watch for Windsor-Essex. Storm warnings remain in effect for Elgin County, Simcoe, Niagara, and other areas along the coast of Lake Erie.
Environment Canada’s weather office is warning of the risk of thunderstorms for most of Southwestern Ontario — including Windsor and Essex County.
According to Environment Canada meteorologists, the conditions are ripe for development of dangerous storms capable of producing heavy rain and wind gusts strong enough to cause property damage.
Forecasts say the storm system will move eastward throughout Thursday morning. Regions north of Windsor-Essex will actually be getting it worse, with storm warnings stretching from Elgin County to Niagara.
The storm watch for Windsor-Essex was issued shortly after 7 a.m. There’s a 60 per cent chance of rain showers later in the morning and into the afternoon.
The chance of rain will decrease to 40 per cent in the evening, but the risk of a thunderstorm will continue.
Friday’s forecast includes a 30 per cent chance of rain in the afternoon. Sunny conditions are predicted for Saturday, but the rain is expected to return Sunday.
