Snow, ice pellets, freezing rain on the way for Windsor-Essex

Winter’s not done with us yet, folks. Forecasters with Environment Canada have issued a special weather statement for Southern Ontario — including Windsor-Essex — advising of snow, ice pellets, and freezing rain.

The crummy conditions are expected to hit our region on Tuesday, starting with snow and ice pellets in the morning, and changing into freezing rain later in the day.

The predicted amount of snow and ice is actually not a lot — just two centimetres. And at long last, the temperature should rise above freezing — to a high of 2 C (35.6 F).

The freezing rain will likely become plain rain by the early evening.

However, the precipitation is anticipated to come suddenly, and the freezing rain could persist for a few hours in the mid-day.

Meteorologists are blaming the wintery blast on a low pressure system that developed over the U.S. plains and tracked toward Ontario. If it’s any consolation, Toronto will get it worse — with snowfall for the GTA predicted to be in the five to 10 centimetre range.
