Another day, another record.

The arctic blast that continues to pummel Windsor and Essex County has shattered another single-day cold weather record.

The mercury dipped to -24C at Windsor airport around 6 a.m. Friday, breaking the previous record of -17.2C for Feb. 20 set in 1966.

Environment Canada continues to place the region under an extreme cold warning.

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has issued a cold weather alert until Saturday afternoon.

The bitterly cold arctic blast is combining with northerly winds to produce wind chills as low as -35C.

Environment Canada is forecasting a high of -12C for Friday.

Hypothermia and frostbite are possible when exposed to these conditions.

People are reminded to dress accordingly and limit exposure outside.
