Poll Question: Should schools be open today or closed?

The local public and Catholic school boards cancelled buses because of the weather today but didn’t go so far as to cancel classes. In contrast, the University of Windsor closed for the day and St. Clair College opened only at noon.

Windsor and Essex County was hit hard with snow Sunday and overnight but the major roads, by and large, were plowed by the morning and clear of any serious collisions.

It is cold and getting colder, though. It was -13C shortly after 10:30 a.m. and the low is forecast at -16C with a windchill warning in effect that could make temperatures feel like -35C later today and -40C later tonight and Tuesday.

The Windsor and Essex County Health Unit issued an “extreme cold weather alert” about 10:30 a.m.

What do you think? Did the school boards make the right call in cancelling buses but keeping school open? Vote in our poll and Sound Off! below:
